In a career that first began twenty years ago in the Middle East and journeyed to NYC, I have seen clients from every conceivable background who have sought nurturing guidance to face trauma, anxiety, grief and sadness. Often, whether working with men and women suffering from loss or separation, abuse victims, veterans, refugees, or families of substance abusers, I have witnessed that moment of clarity in a client when they realize there is actually hope for a better, more satisfying life. This, I believe, is the essence of therapy and I strive to smooth the path towards and beyond it.
My aim is to help my clients recover hope and find the hero within. I focus on deepening client/therapist relationship through insight, empathy, mindfulness, humor, care, creativity and humanity. Furthermore, I am determined these be not just words we throw around, but pointers towards a better life filled with dignity.
I love literature and have a Master's degree in Creative Writing. This, I believe, can be another unique window in one's approach to therapy.
It has been a privilege to walk along side others managing more complex psychological issues and trauma or just helping them talk things out. I am currently offering telehealth services to adolescents (ages 11 and up) and adults. I also work with couples, parents, and families.
My doctoral training and experience in the field for over 20 years allow me to work with a wide range of issues. I have worked in different capacities and settings including as an adjunct professor, supervisor of therapy/ testing, and a psychotherapist in hospitals, universities, and a military behavioral health clinic. I have extensive experience treating depression and anxiety, grief/ loss, relationship concerns, trauma, OCD, chronic health issues, infertility, adjustment/ self-esteem problems in children/ adults, substance use issues, and personal growth.
My goal is to blend evidence based treatment including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and meditation with a warm, caring style. I like to take a holistic approach focusing all aspects of psychological, physical, and spiritual health. Many of the clients who come to me are overwhelmed by anxiety or sadness after experiencing challenges during the parenthood journey, or just not feeling like themselves. My goal is to help you heal, find your footing again, and develop effective coping strategies that will serve you long-term.
