I’m Valerie, a therapist based in Denver, CO. I work with children (ages 4+), teens, and adults navigating anxiety, ADHD, trauma, life transitions, and identity exploration. I earned my Master’s in Social Work in 2023 and have experience in both agency and private practice settings.
I also live with ADHD myself, which means I don’t just talk theory—I understand firsthand the challenges of focus, overwhelm, and motivation. Clients tell me that makes me feel more real and relatable, and I feel that is an important part of the therapeutic alliance.
I believe that humans should ideally be unfolding and growing throughout their lifetime. This means embracing change, especially when life gets difficult and we feel stuck, dissatisfied, or overwhelmed. Change is a journey with ups and downs. Personally, I believe we all struggle with challenges at different times in our life and it's the courageous who seek help.
I have over 30 years experience in the field and 25 years as a therapist. I received a Master of Arts in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University in 2000. I work with adults and adolescents in addressing depression/bipolar, anxiety, trauma, stress, grief, anger, suicidal thoughts, life changes, illness/aging, relationships, sexuality and gender identity, spirituality, and existential issues.
I have been working in mental health since 2013, and my deep passion is to help individuals live into who they are made to be. My career has included supporting men in addiction recovery, elementary aged kids in school based settings, individuals and families transitioning out of homelessness, and adolescents, teens, and adults in all levels of eating disorder treatment including acute inpatient care. Believing that past impacts present and future, I work from a behavioral stance to help clients identify how their thoughts are keeping them stuck in unhelpful behavior patterns while identifying ways to live into their strengths.
With over a decade of experience, I know that knowledge is power and bring my expertise from group and residential treatment settings to support you in your work with tailored psychoeducation and personal skill development. Life has taught me that you can’t always take it too seriously, and I always try to add levity to the hard work of therapy.
