I am a licensed psychotherapist in the state of Colorado (LPC License # LPC. 0012882). I have been practicing psychotherapy since beginning my Master of Clinical Counseling program in 2010, at the University of Northern Colorado. Since graduating in 2012 with my Master in clinical counseling and school counseling, I have worked with individuals suffering from a wide range of psychological diagnoses, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), major depression, anxiety, as well as issues related to domestic violence, substance abuse, separation from loved ones and dislocation. My work experience includes working for several years as an outpatient psychotherapist in a well-known and established community mental health organization. In addition, I am trained and certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, which has been extensively researched and proven to effectively help clients with PTSD, anxiety, depression and other distressing life experiences. Specializing in the assessment of trauma-related symptoms and the impact on client’s day-to-day psychological, occupational & interpersonal functioning.
We want to show the world that we have everything put together. Many times, we are struggling to stay afloat. Our quality of life is affected, and we find struggle in our relationships. Communication within ourselves and with others is compounded. Finding a non-judgmental and unbiased environment to process individually and/or together with partners and families can help to note the specific problem(s). By better understanding the problem, we are more successful in finding solutions. If we are informed, we are better in our decision-making. Therapy is a unique process, just like your life is unique.
If we have not contacted a professional for help, we are still doing some level of work. The work in the search for the next step. It is when we are lost in asking ourselves “How can I do better? How can I do better for myself and others?”. That’s when the next step of reaching out for help is needed. I am a therapist. I am human. I understand.
With over two decades of experience as a therapist, I have served in various agencies specializing in addictions and mental health. For the past five years, I have transitioned to private practice, where my primary focus is supporting women over the age of 45. My approach incorporates Internal Family Systems therapy, brainspotting, and HRV biofeedback—modalities that, when integrated, offer highly transformative outcomes.
Hi, I'm Marisa. I specialize in supporting the women who are always 'the strong ones'—the dependable professionals, daughters, and partners who hold it all together while quietly carrying the weight of burnout and anxiety.
Many of my clients have spent years pushing through their own needs to show up for others. While that strength served you for a long time, it often leads to a sense of feeling stuck, numb, or disconnected. I offer a grounded, trauma-informed space where you can finally stop performing and start healing. Licensed in Ohio and Colorado, I bring both clinical expertise and lived understanding to help you move at a pace that feels safe for your nervous system.
I am a clinical forensic psychologist with over 35 years of experience working the matters that relate to psychology and the law. This includes assessments, reports, and testimony in court as well as family therapy for family reunification and other matters. I have a doctorate in counseling and educational psychology and a year of post-doctoral training in family therapy. I have written a book about healing from childhood trauma. I have been licensed in 5 states, most recently in Colorado.
